Spectrum Networks, originally known as Spectrum Consulting, was established in 1991. Spectrum Consulting initially built and maintained the Australia Public Access Network Association. This was Australia's first public ISP, operated from a backyard garage with a bank of dial-up modems and a 128Kbps link to the Internet.

In 1994, Spectrum Consulting was approached to build one of Australia’s first commercial ISPs, then called Microplex. By 1995, Microplex had become one of the largest ISPs in Australia. In 1998, Cable & Wireless Optus acquired Microplex.

By 1999, Spectrum Consulting had changed its name to Spectrum Networks Pty Ltd and entered the market under this new name. With nearly three decades of networking experience, it would be hard to find a company that has been in the Internet services industry as long as we have. Spectrum Networks is one of the original and oldest ISPs in Australia. We take pride in being Australian owned, and all our support is locally provided. We cater exclusively to the business and corporate sectors. This focused approach enables us to offer exceptional products and services, along with skilled customer service.
